On Saturday, I got an email from a photo printing website reminding me of this picture from 15 years ago...
I don't know how the website knew it was taken 15 years ago to the day, but once it's out there in the webisphere, it's out there forever!
Anyways, this picture was taken on a bridge over the River Liffy in Dublin Ireland. Dublin was the first stop on our trip to Ireland, Scotland, and England for our 10 year anniversary. This was the 4th of July - but you know they don't celebrate that day? 😄
One of the highlights of this trip was when we visited Dorset County in England. This is where you can find the town of Forston.
There isn't really much of a "town", but there was a sign, a farm & manor house - and an insane asylum (don't know what that says about the Forston clan!!).
While in Dorset County, we stayed in Weymouth. It is a neat little ocean side town that was packed due to the hot weather they were having while we were there. But what was really cool is what I found out later...
A few years after our trip, when I was teaching at Newburgh Christian School, I had my students research their family trees. So, of course, I set the example by researching my tree as well. I looked into all four branches of my family. One of these branches is the Dewey line. In my research I found a source that said the protestant Deweys escaped persecution by leaving France and settling in England. This source also claimed that the "wey" in Weymouth came from the "wey" in Dewey.
So, while visiting this county in England 15 years ago, we may have been walking paths that both my husband's and my family traversed without even knowing it! Like I've said before - God Works in Mysterious Ways!
While I can't definitively prove that both our family lines lived in this area at all, let alone at the same time, I'd like to believe they did. God knows for certain, and maybe he directed our paths to this area because they did.
Isaiah 30:21 says "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'”
Maybe God directed our steps 15 years ago so that our families could once again tread paths they once walked centuries earlier...
