he may NOT devour me!

Well once again, God is Working in Mysterious Ways, prompting me to share in my blog.

This past Sunday, Pastor Troy Boulware mentioned this scripture in his message:

1 Peter 5:8 NKJV

"...your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."

It wasn't the main point of his message, but it reminded me of something.  A few years ago this scripture was the main point of one of his messages.  As soon as he read the scripture I was taken back in time to a nightmare I had when I was little girl...

In my dream I was in a grassy plain and in the distance I could see lions on a slight ridge.  As soon as I saw them I was scared...

The next thing I knew I was on the ground with a lion on top of me! Then the lion went to take a bite out of my neck, but his teeth went right through me like a ghost or a hologram!  I wasn't hurt at all!  Then I woke up...

I may have had the dream only once or maybe a few times, but I didn't remember it until that Sunday when Pastor Troy read that scripture.  All of a sudden it clicked!  The enemy is seeking whom he MAY devour - but the lion in my dream couldn't hurt me!  It's like God was saying, "you MAY NOT devour her!"

I shared all of this with PT that day but hadn't really thought about it since then, at least until this past Sunday...

As soon as I heard the scripture I thought, hmmm, that might make an interesting blog topic.  But then on Tuesday I read an email from Devotionals Daily with an excerpt from Darryl Strawberry's book Turn Your Season Around.  In it he mentioned - you guessed it - this same scripture!  I get the hint, God!

But what was even more interesting was this part of Darryl's book:

If you have ever read National Geographic or watched the Animal Planet channel, you’ve probably learned that a lion stalks stealthily toward its prey only to pounce when the victim is least aware and most vulnerable. The king of the jungle doesn’t make a grand announcement of his intentions to subdue his prey by biting and breaking their neck before ripping them apart limb by limb. No, a lion cleverly and quietly conceals himself in the tall grass or behind a rock, tree, or cluster of vegetation before pouncing on its unassuming victim. It’s not until the damage has been done, the prey conquered, that the lion roars in elation over his conquest.

In my dream the lion did sneak up on me, it pounced on me, it got me on the ground, but when it came to biting and breaking my neck he couldn't do it!  He couldn't tear me apart because he didn't have the power to do it.  He couldn't roar - which he never did in my dream - because he could not conquer me!

You see, "the one who is in [me] is greater than the one who is in the world".  No matter what the enemy throws at us, even if he pounces, even if he knocks us down, he doesn't have the power to destroy us if we are a child of God!

And considering all that is going on in our nation and in our world, I thinks it's good for us to remember Who is in us and Who has the real power!

My First Blog

I'm a little excited about trying my hand at blogging!  I'm currently enrolled in a freebie online class for Purdue Alumni through Purdue Global entitled "Living in a Social Media World".  I thought it could be helpful to my job at Abundant Life Community Church .  I'm on the second week and my current assignment is to write a blog. The topic of this blog is supposed to reflect what I listened to in some podcasts from my class discussion assignments .  I also made a podcast which I will NOT share.  (That is NOT my thing!)  My podcast was on a miraculous healing I experienced last year.  One podcast I listened to was on miracles the speaker saw in one year of his life.  Another was about how the speaker met her husband in an unusual way. All of these got me thinking,  "the Lord sure does move in mysterious ways..."  "God Works in Mysterious Ways" was supposed to be the title of my blog post, not the whole kit and caboodle .  But, I don't kno

Right Place Right Time

I am a klutz!  Just ask my parents, my husband, my children, etc.  We all know it.  My husband thinks I shouldn't do anything even remotely dangerous because I'll undoubtedly get hurt.  I wouldn't go that far, but at any given time I probably have a cut, scrape, or bruise from being clumsy.  This has been going on since I was little.  In fact, the year I turned four was quite a year for me.  My mother was even asked why I was trying to kill myself...  But I know -  God Works in Mysterious Ways  - and He is always looking out for me! In the summer that year, my family was at a party at a home of some friends that had a pool.  My parents, my brother and I were not swimming.  We didn't bring suits.  But I wanted to get in, I wanted to be around the other people in the pool.  So, I walked around the outside of this in-ground pool.  I remember having this weight thing on the end of a rope I was dunking in and out of the water.  And me, being the klutz that I am, fell in the

Invited for a Reason

This will be my first post that isn't part of my social media class.  It's all me! 😁 Enjoy... Over the weekend, my husband and I attended a wedding.  The bride is the daughter of some dear friends of ours.  In fact, 25 years ago this past month, Chad was the best man at their wedding and Steve was the best man at ours! The wedding was beautiful!  It was so much fun watching the bride and groom and all their friends have such a good time.  But during the ceremony and speeches, people kept saying how those in attendance played an important part in the bride and grooms lives and I would almost cringe.  I haven't seen the bride in person since she was a little girl and we'd never met the groom.  How could we have played an important part in their lives??  What were we even doing at the wedding?  Why were we invited? Over the past few days I've thought about this, and of course I remembered "God Works in Mysterious Ways" ... As I said, Chad and I have been fri
